FAQ's
What diet plan is your favorite, and why?
Most authorities, at present, tend toward low carbohydrate and proper lipids (fats) and avoidance of carbohydrates. The South Beach Diet, according to users appears to be easier to follow and maintain than our second choice the Adkins Diet.
We often refer to the USDA suggestions as to diet choice and portion sizes. You can access their site from both our nutritional section and our education sections. When using their automated plans, we suggest always choosing a plan which "moves you toward a healthier weight" unless you have already achieved your healthy-weight goal.
What place do vitamins and supplements play from a
physician's opinion?
Most nutritionists believe that the typical American diet has the daily required vitamins. Nonetheless, a vitamin supplement such as Centrum Silver or an equivalent store brand (Walgreen's for example) insures adequate vitamins. Our elderly patients are more susceptible to inadequate intake, consequently, vitamins are more commonly prescribed.
Supplements are more controversial. Herbs, and home-style remedies at times may be either beneficial or detrimental. We suggest reviewing the FDA warning on our nutritional section, before consuming any (and especially a large amount) of unregulated supplements. Be particularly careful about herbs and drug interactions. Your pharmacist typically has computerized compatibility information for all DRUG-DRUG interactions. We have not seen a computer program which red-flags supplement interactions.
What is safe?
It is much easier to list unsafe vitamins when taken in high doses. What is frightening from a medical perspective is changes in recommendations. For example, Vitamin E at 400 IU twice a day has been the standard to avoid aging-oxidation and mental deterioration for 20 years. Yet this year the FDA has warned about cardiac arrhythmias associated with the former recommended dose. Now, our office is careful to correct vitamin misuses. All the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, K in high doses ARE HARMFUL.
Which supplements and vitamins are clearly beneficial?
Submission date April 1, 2007:
We have found various references that describe specific remedies from the use of vitamins and supplements, including herbs. A general rule is avoid high doses of everything. Ask your physician, who usually is NOT trained in the use of these groups of additives and you will hear, "please research this yourself" because there have been few comparative studies about such a large and changing aspect of the American diet.
Slimmer Success can definitively deny the adage that "if 1 gram makes you better, then 10 grams will really help." We will eventually suggest specific agents and their safety and indications. We have already located two large distributors who claim that they have a professional nutritional committee which insures that their compounds MEET FDA safety standards. We are reluctant to list these compounds until we have learned more. Even upon allowing your access to these supplements from our website, we cannot accept liability for the distributor usage claims.
Careful is the keyword. However, we see great results with Condroitin for joint problems and some of the cold remedies really appear to work from this practitioner's experience.

We have created a purchase program which is competitive with any existing internet business. The manufacturing process and the safe composition of our recommended supplements is our primary concern.
We call our store, Doc's "Health and Happiness Shoppe" at www.healthandhappinessshoppe.com . We are including a search engine which will list accepted agents/compounds based upon indications, such as illnesses or problems. All our supplements will be from America's largest and most trusted sources.
Please go to www.healthandhappinessshoppe.com - " All Established Supplements" where we offer all the commonly requested supplements, again, at very low costs. Many have existed for decades without incident, however without scientific evaluation. In general, based upon HISTORY we consider them safe. The manufacturing process and the safe composition will again be the basis of our approval .
